2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Specification- Overall
The latest 2008 Lancer is a compact sports sedan that was launched in the market by Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA). The superb 'class-up' value of the car comes in an aggressively styled packaging geared by advanced safety and cutting edge user technology. The 2008 Lancer once more brings the bold and dynamic lines of the head turner 2005 stunning Mitsubishi Concept-X. The new design elements convey an unmistakable brand identity that is going to stay for quite some time. The exciting design of the Lancer can be noticed in the 'shark-nosed' styled front end that is inspired by jet fighter air intakes along with the distinct wedge-like profile and crisp and sleek lines.
Design and Style
The overall design and style of the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer is based on a new performance-engineered global platform that is also used in the making of the all-new Mitsubishi Outlander SUV. The comprehensive safety package in the Lancer comes with seven standard air bags along with the first driver's knee air bag in any Mitsubishi model. The ES model projects a more refined appearance with its 5-spoke 16-in. alloy wheels, color-keyed door handles and mirrors and a chrome grille accent. The overall styling of the GTS trim is a bit more aggressive than the other models, with 10-spoke 18-in. alloy wheels, front and side air dams, standard fog lights, a rear spoiler and a chrome tailpipe tip.
Trims
The Lancer for the 2008 line-up is available in three levels of trim and driving dynamics: DE, ES and the sports-tuned GTS. The new-generation Lancer has only one standard engine configuration for all the models. The 2.0-liter DOHC MIVEC 4-cylinder engine is one of the most powerful standard engines as far as the compact car segment is concerned. This engine gives 152 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 146 lb.-ft. of peak torque at 4,250 rpm. The engines are teamed with a standard crisp-shifting 5-speed manual transmission, but as an optional feature it offers continuously variable transmission (CVT). With the CVT, the GTS trims features an exclusive 6-step Sportronic(R) mode with the help of which the driver can manually control the transmission operation using magnesium steering wheel paddle shifters. A CVT improves both fuel economy and exhaust emissions.
Features
The interior cabin of the Lancer is characterized by clean and crisp surfaces that are basically free of unnecessary gimmicks. High-quality materials marked by careful attention to detail are used for the interior segment. Each of the three trim levels has their own distinct seating materials and interior trim. The overall shape and design of the instrument panel imparts a more spacious interior feeling. The roomy feeling is quite computable with 94.8 cu. ft. of passenger space. Precision-designed detailing on all controls provides a "high-touch," high-tech feel.
